SUMMARY:Histories and Cultures of Conflict Workshop – 5 March 2025
DESCRIPTION:We invite proposals from Early Career Researchers for a workshop on ‘Histories and Cultures of Conflict’.  Papers should concern histories of\, or historical approaches to\, conflict broadly defined\, from warfare to civil disorder and political violence\, from the ancient to the modern period.     \n\n\n\nPapers may speak to the research specialisms of the group: \n\n\n\n\nAftermaths of conflict and veterans’ histories;\n\n\n\nCultural approaches to the history of violence;\n\n\n\nArms and armaments in peace and wartime;\n\n\n\nThe history of political violence\, political extremism\, and terrorism;\n\n\n\nDigital humanities and conflict;\n\n\n\nThe challenges and dynamics of new modes of warfare\n\n\n\n\nProposals for papers on other topics in the history of conflict will also be considered.   \n\n\n\nOur goal is to bring together emerging scholars of historical conflict in a constructive and supportive environment.  Applicants should have recently completed their PhD\, or be nearing completion\, and considering further study or research.  Participants will be offered the chance to take part in a mentoring scheme\, pairing them with a member of HaCC.  A small number of bursaries will be available to support attendance. \n\n\n\nProposals for 20-minute papers should include a title\, a 300-word abstract\, and a one-page CV with current contact details.  The deadline for proposals is 1 December 2024. \n\n\n\nPlease send proposals to Dr Chris Millington\, c.millington@mmu.ac.uk
